There are places in Africa that are known to the world. And then there are places that change the world within you. Mount Rwenzori is one of them.
At Time2Fly Tours & Travel Ltd, we’ve led journeys to Zanzibar’s white sands, through Kenya’s savannahs, and across Dubai’s towering skylines. But nothing quite prepares you for Uganda’s own hidden crown the Rwenzori Mountains, often called the Mountains of the Moon.
Tucked away in the far west of Uganda, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mount Rwenzori is a mysterious, snow-capped wonder that few travelers have dared to explore. While the world rushes to the more famous peaks of Africa, Rwenzori remains wild, raw, and sacred waiting for the bold.
Where Earth Meets the Sky

In July, we organized a 7-day guided Rwenzori trekking expedition, and the experience was beyond anything words can fully capture. From the very first day, as our group gathered at the trailhead at Nyakalengijo, you could feel the shift the air cooler, the energy ancient.
We were led by experienced local guides, men and women who grew up in the shadows of these mountains. Their knowledge wasn’t just technical; it was spiritual. They spoke of the Bakonzo people, whose traditions are deeply rooted in the mountain's spirit. To them, Rwenzori isn’t just a mountain it’s a guardian, a living presence.
As we trekked through five ecological zones, it felt like traveling through multiple worlds:
The montane forest, thick and dripping with vines and birdcalls, felt like entering Eden.
The bamboo zone, silent and green, like a cathedral carved by nature.
Then came the giant heather and lobelia, otherworldly plants that made us feel like we had landed on another planet.
Higher still, the alpine zone offered sweeping views, icy winds, and a silence so profound you could hear your soul breathing.
And finally, the glaciers and snowfields a surreal sight in equatorial Africa.
Each night, we camped under the stars, warmed by local food, laughter, and stories around the fire. Our team ensured comfort and safety, but it was the bond formed through shared challenge and awe that made the nights unforgettable.
The Summit: Margherita Peak

On Day 5, we set out at dawn to attempt the summit of Margherita Peak (5,109 meters) Africa’s third-highest point. The trail was tough: steep, slippery, and cold. But every step closer to the top was a step deeper into us.
At the summit, surrounded by snow and standing above the clouds, something shifted. We cried. We laughed. We stood in silence. It wasn’t just about reaching the top it was about everything we left behind to get there: fear, doubt, comfort zones.
From Margherita Peak, we looked out over the world the green valleys of Uganda on one side, the misty lands of Congo on the other. And in between, only sky.
